Information about this Winner Bizz update guide
This guide provides the user with instructions to update the database of Winner Bizz 11.5 to version 12.0 on the user's computer network and your servers. This process allows the user to migrate this database without having to uninstall and reinstall the software.
Recommendations before starting the upgrade
Before beginning the upgrade users should:
- Define a period of time and inform other user's in the company to not use Winner Bizz during this period.
NOTE! Users should not plan to upgrade on a Friday. - Inform the Compusoft ADV service by email in order to validate the user's request and so that we can activate the migration according to the period defined by the user.
NOTE! No migrations will be performed on a Friday. - Create a backup of the database on the primary server. To create a backup, launch Winner Bizz on the primary server and select the menu option Database > Backup.
- Synchronise all PCs in the user's company to the primary server.
- Make sure that all laptops in Nomad mode, are synchronised before starting the update. Start Winner Bizz in connected mode on the laptops.
Note! Ensure that no projects are locked before updating, to prevent data loss.
- Before updating the primary server, close all Winner Bizz applications on the client computers. It is recommended to shut down client PCs entirely.
NOTE! No users must attempt to use Winner Bizz during the update. - Ensure the primary server has enough disk space. Approximate size of the update: between 3GB and 3.5 GB.
- Users should consider the time required for the update. This may depend on the size of the user's current database, hardware and network speed.
NOTE! During this time, users cannot work on Winner Bizz.
Activation by Compusoft
Users will receive a confirmation e-mail from our ADV department, informing them of the activation of this major update.
Administrator account
In case the user is connected to Windows without administrator rights, users can perform Winner Bizz updates through the following window Other > Help and support > Winner Bizz support tools:
In the window provided for this purpose, fill in the connection data for a Windows account as Administrator. This way, the updates will be launched without requiring the approval of an administrator beforehand.
Note: If the user has a local account, they can enter the Domain field with the name of their computer or leave it blank.
Backup of your database
NOTE! Users are urged to back up their database to avoid data loss in the event of an error.
Update
- Updating the primary server
This is the first step of the update procedure. Users have a primary server to which all data from their different sites (secondary servers) is replicated. The primary server as well as all connected laptops and client computers must be updated in sequence. Users must first update the primary server before they can update the laptops and client PCs.
Before updating the server, connect and synchronise all Nomad laptops. Once all laptops are synchronised, close all Winner Bizz applications running on laptops and client PCs.
- Download
First, the download will be done automatically in the background according to the settings the user has defined in the Application settings under the System tab in Winner Bizz.
- Automatic installation
Once the download is complete, the installation will be done automatically when Winner Bizz is restarted. Once the primary server is updated, the laptops and client PCs can be updated independently.
Troubleshooting - Why is the installation not starting automatically?
- The download is not finished.
- A computer is still using Winner Bizz or a Winner process is still active.
- Connection problems between the user's computer and the server.
- Update of secondary servers and laptops
- Before updating a laptop, it must be connected to the network.
- Ensure the primary server has been updated first.
- Open Winner Bizz with an Administrator login.
As soon as the primary server has installed the version, the secondary servers and laptops should start updating automatically when Winner Bizz is launched. The installations of the secondary servers and the laptops cannot start while the primary server is updating. Follow the same installation steps as for the primary server.
Note: The availability of the update, after the primary server has been updated, may be up to fifteen minutes. If, after some time, no update is available for the different secondary servers or workstations, contact our Support team.
- Updating client machines
- Before updating a client workstation, make sure that the server has been updated first. Otherwise, the user will not be able to update the client computer.
- Open Winner Bizz with a standard login.
Start Winner Bizz on the client computer. The update will be done automatically when Winner Bizz starts. Click on OK when the installation window appears.
Repeat the operation on all client stations.
